Introduction
This guide will help your business, forum, or personal website become more socially connected to the users that you are trying to target. The main goal of this tutorial or thread is to get your business noticed via social networking sites and to connect to your clients and/or potential clients in a more friendly and active way. This post will lean more to twitter since twitter is the most popular and utilized social influencing tool, however, other networks such as facebook will be covered here. So lets get started shall we?
Create a topic and stick to that topic
Create a personal brand or stick to the topics in which your company is directed at. Every single person has a passion or interest, so when using twitter or facebook make posts that deal with questions, articles, images that are related to that topic. Once you have established that niche its very important that you do not wonder away from that niche. If you start talking about web designing and web development one week then change your tune to classical music your current followers will be very displeased and will more than likely unfollow you or unlike you. This goes the same way for business twitter accounts. If your business is about web hosting the last thing you want to be posting about is the latest weather forecast.
The bottom line here is to simply build a brand and stick to it, hold that front line and keep all content posted or tweeted related to the topic of discussion. If your a web hosting company, stick to topics that deal with servers, web hosting, domains, and tech articles, not the weather.
Stick out in a way that is Positive, Get Noticed!
Once you have your brand focused and set you need to really get noticed, you need to stand out from the crowed so to speak. Think of it like high school or collage, if you do what everyone else does your going to be just like everyone else. If you go out and do your own thing, something unique, well than you are just that, unique. For example, when you post a link on twitter or facebook, don't just give the title and say "what do you guys think?" tell your opinion about it, or make your own blog post about that article saying your views on it. This will let users know that your not just some emotionless robot just posting random things, it lets them get to know you better. With more people mentioning you on twitter about this link this generates more views to your account and more views to your website.
Know your Followers
This is very important when using twitter as a social network advertising hub. You need to understand the interests and needs of your followers and post content that they will find interesting and useful. Once you understand what your followers enjoy and respond to then you will be able to post similar content that will keep your current followers hooked and will more than likely spread the word.
What you really need to understand is that getting all the attention and getting the 5k followers or even the 1 million followers is not going to happen as fast as you want it and getting to the top of that rope should be the last of your worries. You need to focus on one thing at a time and at the start. Be unique and original, if you are people will start to follow you.
Start Discussions, Ask Questions, and Get Connected!
Get more personal with your users and start asking questions about what they think about certain topics. Start discussion threads to get people taking. The more people mentioning you and talking about your latest post means more followers and site views, meaning that your business is getting noticed.
If you don't have anything interesting to talk about then well people will just find you as another useless space on twitter, not good! Even more so, if you have nothing useful to add to the conversation or feel that what you want to say might piss off a few users, then stay quiet and hold off on that reply button. The last thing you need is for your followers to find you as a nag and you really do not need them to resent you.
The great way to get a community discussion is to simply ask questions, find out what even a single follower is talking about then ask a relevant question that your followers will jump on and respond to. However, you need to stay away from rhetorical questions, if that needs to be explained any further, well lets just hope that we do not have to explain it.
Use the Tools that are Provided!
One big thing to do is use the tools that are provided to you, they will help! Social level tools such as Klout monitor your influence level and show you some suggestions to help you get noticed. Do not think that using tools to assist you is a bad thing, its not, believe me. As a business owner myself I use these tools daily to find out what our customers like, what they hate, what our influence number is so that we can provide a more relative discussion on twitter.
If you have any suggestions of your own or want to leave some feedback I welcome it. Do not hesitate to ask any questions or post your comments here. Anyways, please follow us at
